Urban Social Maps, an interesting publication

Just when we are in a time when the real scope of international cooperation for development and the efforts of each country to order their goal to improve the quality of life of citizens becomes questionable, a second edition, Application CD of the publication Urban Social Maps.  In this, the current possibilities for the study of the socio-spatial differentiation of the population in the urban space are discussed, focusing on the models developed to study the cities of Latin America.
This publication is interesting, as it is a clear example of how geospatial thematic finds a niche in a field where professionals in the social area, accustomed to model synthesis from an abstract point of view, in the qualitative aspect, leading them to mathematical methods that are represent spatially.
The methodology of quantitative spatial analysis developed in the field of Geography is now available to everyone through the use of current digital technologies - mainly Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Space Decision Support Systems ( SADE) - therefore, an important theoretical-methodological basis is necessary for the interpretation of the results.
Urban maps
The treatment of socio-spatial data through the calculation of indices for the study of the segregation of population groups, the exploratory analysis of spatial data, the analysis of spatial autocorrelation, the correlation analysis and the obtaining of homogeneous areas (spatial typologies) through Of the Average Index Value, Linkage Analysis, Factor Analysis and Cluster Analysis apply to different case studies.
The theories analyzed and the methodologies that accompany them have been applied in several intermediate cities of Argentina (Bahía Blanca, Luján, Mar del Plata, Mendoza, Neuquén, Posadas, Resistencia, Santa Fe, San Juan, San Miguel de Tucumán, San Salvador de Jujuy, Tandil and Trelew) and large cities of Latin America (Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile and San Pablo), used as empirical material for the development of a synthesis: the conceptual-spatial model of the city from Latin America.
The book shows how urban social maps become important instruments in advancing the comprehension and socio-spatial planning of every city.
