Launch Google Earth 5.0
Google has launched an invitation to the press for the presentation of the 5 version of Google Earth.
Apparently it will be simultaneous in several places, since it has been known that they will do it in San Francisco. In the case of Spain, it will be on Monday, February 2 at 11:30 in the Torre Picasso, 26th floor. It is necessary to confirm attendance at +34 91 126 63 58.
The presentation will be made by:
- Laurence Fontinoy, Marketing Director of Google Spain
- Isabel Salazar, head of product marketing for Google
- A representative of the National Geographic Society in Spain.
Although the announcement says "the new features will surprise you", we hope we have as many nuts as noise, because this news for Monday will be in all media.
What can we expect from this version:
1. Import .csv files
As we all know, this cost $ 20 annually with Plus version, but when it becomes free, this functionality should be included in the 5.0 version, although it is likely that the number of points will be increased from 100 to 250 ... at least.
2. Interaction with GPS and browser
It is expected that it can connect in real time with NMEA, reading, at least with the Garmin GPS, the Maguellan are in danger of being discontinued because no one knows who the company will be sold to tomorrow at 3. Of course, unlike the simple existing connection In the Plus version we would expect that .gpx formats can be imported and even be able to send data to the device.
Also the route measurement is expected included, and if you could add sections in profile as Virtual Earth does, the better.
3. Google Ocean
This functionality is safe, since it has been a novelty lately and the fact that National Geographic is in the presentation is undoubtedly related to it. Now, we suppose that in the upper bar there will be a button like the one for Sky, a blue one for Ocean.
4. Improvement in speed
We know that the Plus version had a better cache management, so we would expect that in this version the resource consumption of the equipment is more efficient. It will probably improve the OpenGL view that was distorted in some zooms; while in the DirectX view it could have a better visualization of the filled shapes that to date are a disaster.
5. the sky and the earth
Although Google already has sky, earth and seas, we would like the genius of the lamp to ask us what would satisfy ordinary users ... and rare but under the free version.
-To import shapefiles into Google Earth, currently it can only be done with the version Enterprise Client.
-Better management of the symbology, it was possible to thematize a map based on attributes.
-Better access to wms services, although it supports OGC standards, with some we have encountered difficulties. And since the genie of the lamp only allows three wishes, which includes in this uncomplicated access to LandSat, STRM, NASA SVS, MODIS, USGS ...
-Access to wfs ... not so much, better not disappoint us.
Finally the historical images has been the best.
