Entrepreneurship stories. Geopois.com

In this 6th edition of Twingeo Magazine We open a section dedicated to entrepreneurship, this time it was Javier Gabás Jiménez's turn, whom Geofumadas has contacted on other occasions for the services and opportunities offered to the GEO community.

Thanks to the support and drive of the GEO community, we managed to draft our business plan and reach the last phase of the ActúaUPM competition, although we did not receive a cash prize, we continued with our means.

The article "Entrepreneurship Stories: Geopois.com" was written by Javier himself, there he comments on part of the beginnings of his company until he became consolidated in Geopois.com. We remember that Geopois is a Thematic Social Network on Geographic Information Technologies (TIG), geographic information systems (GIS), programming and Web Mapping ”.

We want to get away from what other training companies are doing, turning geopois.com into a thematic social network in the GEO field, especially in geospatial programming and libraries, with a very specific theme and a much closer interaction between our community.

Since 2018, Gabás comments on how he began to develop the idea of a “geospatial technologies blog” after finishing his studies in engineering in geomatics and topography at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and working in Startups and Multinationals.

The size of the global geospatial analytics market is expected to grow from $ 52,6 billion in 2020 to $ 96,3 billion in 2025, so the demand for geospatial professionals is set to nearly double

With extensive professional training, Javier had 5 scholarships that gave him a degree and, above all, knowledge in data management technologies such as programming, SQL, No SQL, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that helped him to have a base to create Geopois.

What we offer our users is the ability to participate by creating tutorials through a crowdsourcing model, how OpenStreetMap is doing, for example. Content is important to us, and we love to take care of and provide our users with maximum visibility as well as pampering our authors and offering them a professional website to express themselves.

Separated by years, it shows the effort of all the members of Geopois to grow this company that is constantly providing opportunities to all analysts and those interested in geospatial data. The web offers learning alternatives as well as a network of collaborators who can be contacted for specific jobs related to the GEO world.

We closed the year with an exponential growth in terms of the number of visits, more than 50 specialized tutorials on geospatial technologies, a thriving LinkedIn community with nearly 3000 followers and more than 300 geospatial developers registered in our platform from 15 countries, including Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Poland or Venezuela

In short, Geopois is an extremely interesting idea, combining potential conditions of this context in terms of content offering, collaboration and business opportunities. In good time for the geospatial environment that every day is more uncertain in almost everything we do in our daily lives.
