Technological trends in spatial data infrastructures in Latin America
Within the framework of the project with the PAIGH, 3 institutions in Latin America (Ecuador, Colombia and Uruguay) are working on the project
“Scenarios for the analysis of new trends in Spatial Data Infrastructures in Latin America: challenges and opportunities”.
In this context, we invite you to participate in this survey in addition to helping us publish and disseminate in the media where Geofumadas readers have reach.

The Latin American community (public institutions, private companies, independent professionals, universities and research centers) is invited to participate in the survey of applications of technological trends in spatial data infrastructures in Latin America developed within the framework of the research project "Scenarios for the analysis of new trends in Spatial Data Infrastructures in Latin America: challenges and opportunities”. This project is financed by PAIGH – Pan American Institute of Geography and History and executed by the University of Cuenca (Ecuador), University of Azuay (Ecuador), University of the Republic (Uruguay) and the Mayor's Office of Bogotá – IDECA (Colombia).
The survey aims to identify applications in Latin America that link spatial data infrastructures and location-based services with new technological trends such as mobile devices, sensors attached to mobile devices, cloud computing and voluntary geographic information. The information collected will help to establish the degree of progress on this issue in Latin America.
Topics include:
1- DISCOVERY OF APPLICATIONS, tending to discover applications that have been developed or that are in the process of development.
2- SPECIFICATIONS, designed to identify the standards and specifications used, their advantages, limitations and the need for future specification developments.
3- INDICATORS, aimed at identifying monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to measure the effectiveness and impact that applications have on society.
4- GOOD PRACTICES, aimed at identifying good practices and lessons learned at the Latin American level, understood as good access practices or initiatives that produced tangible and measurable results.
5- DISCOVERING OF APPLICATIONS DEVELOPED BY THIRD PARTIES, tending to discover applications that have been developed by other institutions.
The results of the survey will be published in the project reports, newsletters on the subject and articles, thus contributing to the publicity of the reported applications. In addition, the collaborators who provide information will be mentioned in the acknowledgments of the reports and articles.
