The case of Honduras, which history speaks
The case of Honduras is a situation that is full of many confusions of which I do not intend to clarify because for this there are people who have that role. The most complicated thing is that the fight is not only administrative for democracy but also has ideological connotations, and up to this point I prefer not to stick my nose in.
- I do not sympathize with the right, because half of my life has shown me that all (with some exceptions) are equal, interested in their own affairs, accommodated to interests.
- I also do not sympathize with the left because although several of its postulates are interesting, many social achievements have been thanks to its contribution, what happens is that a high percentage of my family died fighting for these ideals and after having almost half of my life dreaming of their promises, I have spent the other half trying to forget them.
- And the mixtures between them, can become as perverse as the same extremes, almost like playing with the bar of bands of a satellite image ... but to the beast.
So with two boys at school, my mortgage on my house being amortized by fire, allergy to the ideological extremes, openness to ways of life that I would not do myself but that have shown me to be right, I conclude that without my monthly adrenaline I have dreams because the world can be a better place ... for everyone.
So what will the history of Honduras tell? Time knows but I want to close yesterday's chapter that I could barely interline it via mobile because the internet connection was a calamity. I was so eager to finish a post on the usefulness of preserving dirty cadastre maps for their historical and legal value but inspiration is cut off when you have to think about the safety of your little ones who have no idea of the risk that exists out there while they have cable TV.
1. I insist on the issue of corruption
These peoples are tired of the abuse of power, use of public resources (of us) for private purposes or spent irresponsibly. The last straw is seen in those who do it with such impudence that it is even commented as a praised cunning, and this everyone knows. I even dare to suppose that they themselves might know it too.
As long as this persists, there will always be democratic instability in Latin America.
2. Hit or no hit, what difference does it make
International news has focused on what is a military coup, others who have spoken to Hondurans call it oligarchic conspiracy, others call it constitutional succession.
Which of this is, I don't hope to make it official, you have to be here for the last few years to know what it is. For the moment, the new government must justify its legality internationally, and the previous one must find sufficient forces with ALBA, OEA, Mercosur and other bodies to fight its right.
I do not care, the peace of the population was broken, both due to the imprudence of a president who used to say "this male is my mule", and with good intentions he fought with his party, with the churches, the power judiciary, the legislature, the public prosecutor's office, and finally with the armed forces. Many of his actions leave us in great doubt about who should put in order the arbitrary actions of a president. Likewise, the other side broke our peace, for having let it go very far with its follies and the hypocrisy of those who prefer to let someone finish sinking in order to bring water to their mill.
But finally a legacy of Zelaya remains in the population, who woke up with a hope to be heard, and which he will now claim. Unfortunately, it did so in a way that was too controversial before the legal establishment of the country and under flirtations with the extreme left that has no sympathy for the cancellation of many freedoms in the countries where it is installed in a totalitarian way.
3. Mission difficult, do not try again
Now comes the acid test, the constitutional successor has just six months to show that he will not water it like so many as we have had. In November there must be presidential elections again, as planned and this crazy story should end as long as there is a chance to elect the “least worst”
But as these six months pass, we all hope that the chapter of extreme sectarianism will close, and a national dialogue will open where opportunities are given to talk about many changes that have been necessary for a long time. The country has many vices to deal with, such as political patronage, lack of long-term planning, legal rearrangement, poetic decentralization, inheritance of political power at the surname level, unhealthy bipartisanship, in short ...
If you want to make substantial changes, it takes a long-term job, and that implies opening the door to the participation of the population with alternatives better than the fire extinguisher removed by means of the regulation of the referendum and plebiscite legally existing.
If we ask one thing of the successor, it is that in just six months DO NOT FUCK HER, because it is too little time for the stubbornness that some of his sectarian opinions have shown. The country has an interesting opportunity to speak honestly, these moments, as well as Hurricane Mitch, can be wasted for petty interests.
Rather than prove to the world that they recognize him as constitutional president, he must prove to us that he will not xgará like many others in such a short time that I can hardly write 180 post, see 6 movies in the cinema and go to church 24 times with the hope that my boys have something to believe in.
4. A new movement to emerge
I am convinced that political parties are necessary for the exercise of democracy, but a better alternative must emerge in the face of destructive practices that occur throughout Latin America and that lead to institutional retreat every four years as:
- The purchase of media, either by the government to cover errors or influence of others to maintain their particular interests.
- The slowness in advancing laws such as the civil and civil servant civil race, which can open the door to a way to combat the political clientelism that many countries have already driven.
- The definition of a long-term plan, born of a social and political consensus, such that each incoming government, knows what the contribution is to the critical indicators that must be met.
- The decentralization of the administration of economic development from the central government to the municipalities and the reconfiguration of regional entities that give value to departmental governance, rather than a political link.
- The review of public policies that consider the existing social debt, and which is the cause of all this commotion.
If this and other 235 changes can make them existing parties, welcome, they have all the human and intellectual resources to do so; not so time.

How is it possible that in the attempt to save Christianity we try to kill those who do not want to believe in this; and I say it because in the case of Honduras, this is what has happened; Mr. Zelaya, gentlemen of the international community, members of the OAS, caused this to happen, he wanted to violate the intentions of the constituted powers against the collegial mandate of his Government, Mr. Zelaya, just as Chavez , Correa, Ortega and Morales wanted to implement a constitutional coup; but how does Mr. Jose Miguel Insulza understand these things, who apparently have a very narrow concept of democracy; a question that is not explicable in someone who has a recognized diplomatic career; is that Mr. Insulza's eagerness to win the vote for his re-election in the OAS Secretariat has made him close his eyes and not see that democracy is not only the one they choose at the polls, but the one that does not violate sacrosanct principles of democracy in any of its senses; presumably Mr. Insulza thinks that Chavez, Morales, Ortega and Morales are democratic, violating constitutions and human rights in their countries, when he recognizes that Fidel Castro is not a dictator, and that to remain for fifty years directing a country with no choice but him; is a supreme act of democracy; Oh freedom how many crimes are committed in your name

HONDURAS BREAKS PARADIGM IN LATIN AMERICA

The removal of President José Manuel Zelaya Rosales by the Armed Forces in the early hours of Sunday, 28 June, breaks paradigms of the contemporary political history of Latin America. For the first time in the post-Cold War era (from 1989 to date), an army deposes a constitutional and democratically elected President, to restore the rule of law, not to break the rule of law in a country, as it was characteristic of the military in previous times.
This case can not be classified as a "coup d'état", since it does not fulfill two fundamental features of this political phenomenon: seizure of power by the military and breaking the rule of law. The action taken by the Honduran Armed Forces was based on a court order and its purpose was to reestablish the rule of law, which was consistently being violated by the President of the Executive Branch, by ignoring the provisions of Judicial and Legislative Power (checks and balances). After the intervention of the Armed Forces, the Political Constitution continues in force since the succession of power established by the Magna Carta was fully respected, thus appointing a new Constitutional President.
And from the point of view of politics, Honduras yesterday set a precedent, which will undoubtedly become a case study of universities, diplomats and politicians around the world .. For the first time in Latin America, people rebels , without bloodshed and without violence, against a constitutional and democratically elected President, for violating legal provisions and the current institutional framework in the country.
That is why the international press, international organizations and governments around the world have not yet understood the context and the essence of this case, and are condemning what has happened in Honduras, since they are analyzing it based on concepts specific to the old paradigm of the coups d'état during the period of the Cold War. The international community, public and private, has not yet had the time or the elements to realize that in Honduras yesterday a model was broken and that it is a completely sui generis case.
The lesson that Honduras gave the world yesterday is clear: even if a President has been elected democratically and legitimately, he has no right to disobey the Constitution and the laws of the Republic. Peoples are no longer willing to tolerate such abuses of power by constitutional Presidents, who are often considered untouchable by the very fact that they have been elected by the people. The message from Honduras is simple: the popular vote does not include a license to commit a crime, and any effort to govern for the common good must be within the framework of the law.
Probably, the Hondurans have not realized the magnitude of what they did yesterday. With the passing of the days, the months and years will assimilate and understand the dimension of the new paradigm they have seated, with a resounding message to their own and strangers about what it holds for constitutional dictators and their tropical apprentices. He who has ears, let him hear.

It does not seem polite to me to say what you should do in your country. I do not intend to.
I just want to share some things I learned from having lived a single dictatorship (of the many that my country suffered, Argentina).
That dictatorship (1976-1982), took the power missing 9 months for the Government of Isabel Martínez finalizara. It was a bad government, but what came was 10.000 times worse. It was an excuse. The bad governments, alone, pass and do not return. If a bad government or ruler commits crimes, for that there exists the law and all its resources.
In 2001 Argentina lived one of the worst economic and social crises in its history. With say that in 10 days there were as 7 (if I remember correctly) different Presidents. There was police repression and even death. The President did not finish his term. I quit. But at no time was a coup d'état thought. No one was taken out of the country. Several steps were taken to see how the institutionality was maintained. No President arising out of a party outside the law is durable. An elected President can be bad, make mistakes, but he has to act within the law, and if he leaves, the same law will fall on him. Today, former president Carlos Menem is still marching through various court cases. The same as De La Rua (who did not finish his term in the 2001). Nobody cares if they were presidents. Precisely, with more reason, they must explain everything that is necessary in the Tribunals.
The thing to have is Patience. Justice always comes. Never as fast as we want, but have faith.
No matter how bad a government elected by the people, it will never be as bad as a dictatorship.
