Letter to my readers

Dear, after 925.41666666 days of starting to publish ideas in this space known as Geofumadas, and on the eve of a year that is about to start, I want (and feel I must) shake the inkpot with explicit direction towards the readers.

Geophysical In these days it is difficult to properly identify the term reader, not only because the digital contents are obsolete the next minute, but also because these new ways in which the blog has come to be called intellectual production is very difficult to swallow without a good lemon of mouth. I come from a generation that published books in printed formats, which underwent editor's review, color separation, bibliographic card, etc. Accustomed to introducing them to a small group of guests: former classmates, workmates and relatives who attended the 23-minute event, they walked away with their autographed book under their arms after a quick hug, a kiss on the cheek. Then there were a few who were known as readers, that before seeing the book they seemed to know its content, with whom time could not cope with hugs, handshakes and why not a kiss (how delicious). They rubbed the book up to the color of recycling, then in the cafes they came to give you a greeting of admiration and for the excess of clothes hanging no longer the kiss.

Today, much of that has changed (at least for me), broadcasting is a pleasure with the inventiveness of routines that turn a content in just a few seconds. But for this we have had to learn strange terms such as rss, feed, 2.0, tag, slug, ping, many tasks to work must have percent signs (%), underscore (_), at (@), quotes and they do not have the same sense of the textual citation, the editorial review seems to be a waste of time, the citation protocol is a simple url, the highlighted text is an offense against the cascade style (CSS). Anyway, much of the romance is now a hindrance.

Then Google Analytics makes us categorize the audience between those who come back and those who come to solve an emergency, those who come from search engines and those who access directly, those who read us opening the blog and those who follow readers of feeds, obsolete splashing in Internet Explorer and surfing geeks with Safari or Chrome. In all this bonche of categories is possible to lose An entire day without producing anything trying to understand consumer trends, finally we end up resigning ourselves to count them as simple numbers.

But in all of this, the pros outweigh the romance. Know that a reader was spent more than one hour reading a procedure is gratifying, to know that from a village to 300 kilometers from Lima someone connects weekly to read the fumes of a madman, to know the reactions of those who one day break the anonymity to leave a comment even on innocent day. This and more is exciting.

So, to no longer continue to philosophize about what everyone already knows ...

Inkwell and pen My most sincere thanks to those who have embraced this space, who have taken advantage of this content over 2.5347 years, to those who follow from anonymity, a cordial greeting. To those who have email and who after their contact I consider my friends, thank you because your trust has made me release some personal content, which reminds us that in the middle of this tangle of geospatial terms exist.

I know that 2010 will be a great year, I can feel it in your eyes ... and we should live it with that conviction.
