Today there are several free AutoCAD courses on the Internet, with this we do not intend to duplicate the effort already fulfilled by others, but rather to complement a contribution that presents the barrier between the course that explains all the commands and the reality of the user that once knowing the commandos do not know where to start.

Free autocad courseThis content is a sequence of videos that show how the construction plans of a house are made, step by step. The course is based on AutoCAD in versions before 2009, however the operation logic remains the same and in some cases some steps have been facilitated with the arrival of the AutoCAD 2009 interface and it has been maintained until AutoCAD 2013.

It is clear that some steps are elaborated in this way for pedagogical purposes but that over time users learn to do them in other, more practical ways. However, for someone who wants to learn AutoCAD from scratch, this can be a Free AutoCAD Course, ideal because the logic of work is understood on a constructive level.

The following summarizes what these videos represent, separating by color, indicating when they are first used:

  • In brown color the creation commands
  • In red edit commands
  • In green the additional utilities.

Obviously this is AutoCAD to start with, many other things are learned later; also the focus of this is construction plans, topography will involve other commands, 3D will take something else. Commands are not included in the list as Regen, zoom, pan, save, snap, Which are of complementary use throughout the work.


1. Create layers, axes and walls

Commands used:

  • Layer (1), To create the layers: axes, walls, doors, terrain and windows.
  • Circle (1), To make an approach to the work area.
  • Line (2), To trace the external axes
  • Offset, to trace the internal axes
  • Trim (1), To cut leftover shafts
  • Lengthen (2), To extend the axes
  • Mline (3), to draw the walls

Duration: 20 minutes.

2. Creating window and door holes in the walls.
Commands used:

  • Explode (3): To unbind the multilineas of the walls
  • Trim, to eliminate leftovers at intersections
  • Extend (4), To extend some lines
  • Fillet (5), To make the lines cut at the end, using radius = 0
  • Line, to add some lines in the windows gaps
  • Offset to create some lines from walls
  • Circle, to draw the axis of the curved wall
  • LTS (2), To display the line style, adjusting it to 0.01

Duration: 18 minutes

3. Creating doors and windows.
Commands used:

  • Line, offset, circle and trim, to draw a door.
  • Block (4), To create the block.
  • Explode, to modify the block from an existing one
  • Erase (6)To erase
  • Insert (5)To insert door blocks into the gaps.
  • Mirror (7)To create symmetrical copies of doors.
  • Line, mline to draw windows
  • Array (6), To draw the window on the curved wall.

Duration: 21 minutes

4. Drawing of Closet and unevenness in the floor

Commands used:

  • Layer, to create the layers: level, furniture and floor.
  • Line, to draw unevenness on the floor and closests.

Duration: 6 minutes.

5. Drawing of sanitary furniture.
Commands used:

  • Layer, to create sanitary furniture layer.
  • Line to draw the line of kitchen furniture
  • Design Center (3), to insert sink blocks, bathtub, toilet, sink.
  • Offset, line, trim to draw washbasin cabinet.

Duration: 8 minutes

6. Drawing of other furniture.

Commands used:

  • Design Center to insert block of stove, refrigerator, dining room.
  • Copy (8) Move (9), Rotate (10)To move and rotate copies of living room furniture.
  • Line, offset, circle and trim, to draw a door.
  • Design Center to insert beds and vehicle.
  • Line, mline to draw a window that was loose there.

Duration: 11 minutes

7. Shading of environments and inserting plants

Commands used:

  • Layer to create layer of plants and environments.
  • Hatch (7)To flatten shadows on floors and lawns.
  • Design Center to insert plants, garden shrubs and symbol of north.
  • Hatch to fill with solid walls.

Duration: 23 minutes.

8. Insertion of environment texts.
Commands used:

  • Dtext (8) To draw texts
  • Text Style to create a text style, using the Property table (4)
  • Copy, move to insert text based on an existing one
  • Match Properties (5) To copy properties from one text to another.

Duration: 7 minutes

9. Dimensioning.
Commands used:

  • Dimension Style (6), Creating a style from a modified example using the properties table.
  • Coupling using different modalities, linear, continuous, radial, leader.

Duration: 16 minutes

10. Printing.
Commands used:

  • Printing (7) Print settings from the mode

Duration: 7 minutes.

11. Printing, part two.
Commands used:

  • Configuring printing from the layout

Duration: 6 minutes
