Convert shp to kml ... and a whole smoked

Fdo2Fdo is an interesting application that serves not only to convert files from shape file to kml, as the post miserably announces. It becomes for now the alternative after the death of Shp2kml That according to the norms of its creator, apparently expired.

Seeing its functionalities is surprising to know everything it does considering it is a free tool.

Shp to kml

I accidentally found it in Cartesia, it was built by Sl-king, With rights reserved according to the About And in practice is done to make spatial data conversions through FDO (Feature Data Objects) that is an entire smoked Emerged from AutoDesk and other efforts that ended in MapGuide Open Source.

So it is not to be expected that this simple tool is only for converting files, you can convert data from different platforms with spatial data such as Oracle, SQL Server, Informix and MapGuide apart from discrete files like kml and shape file.

Conversions of shp formats

The interface is very simple, for each conversion you have options to convert complete folders or individual files, user and password in case of bases such as Oracle. It is possible to make shp format conversions to spatial formats such as:

  • sdf (AutoDesk MapGuide)
  • Oracle
  • Informix
  • kml

Likewise, they can be converted from sdf formats to

  • shp
  • Oracle
  • Informix
  • kml

From Oracle and Informix data, with the express tools can only be sent to

  • shp
  • sdf

Must see it !!!

The application should be scrutinized because it has great potential, at first it is surprising why it weighs about 30 MB but after seeing it work, you will find out why. You can even configure a file schedule In which the parameters of copying, adding, replacing and several things between different data managers are defined.

Shp to kml

The help is broken, at least I could not access it through the .chm file but it is the least of it. In addition to the GUI, it has a command line utility and an API.
