Microstation Interactive Excel Chart and Distances Chart

We started a few days ago talking about how to do this, but doing concatenation in Excel for AutoCAD or from a CSV to Microstation; both directions and coordinates. Thence some doubts arose if there would be an application that did not require copy paste, but that would interact with an Excel logging and instead of points generate lines, after searching I got tired, and surely there are many mdl for Microstation and Lisp for AutoCAD… unfortunately I did not find much ... that will work

The only one I could find is an application developed in Visual Basic for Moicrostation V8 called Rumbosdisttoexcel.mvba, you can download it in zip format from here.

1 How to load it

  • After downloading it you must unzip it
  • To load it, do the following: utilities / macro / project manager / load project / look for the application where you have saved it / then select ok

2 How to execute it

  • Once you have loaded it, you select it from the Project Manager and apply the blue arrow button “macros”
  • Then you choose the application “RunApplication.runMainMenu”
  • You apply the “run” button
  • and a panel like this will appear

3 What the application does

This application has two functions, both work with Microstation Geographics.

  • Export to Excel, for this, make a fence that encloses the polygon, then choose the Export option
  • This generates a file in Excel, where the bearings, distances and UTM coordinates are separated.
  • At the same time it places the vertices to the polygon starting with the one that is more to the southwest.
  • It also allows you to do the inverse, from the data in Excel you can reconstruct the polygon.

This video show how it works

If someone wants to try it, download it and let me know if it gives you problems ... pity that the VBA is with a password, if someone dares to break it ... it is possible to give it greater capabilities.

I understand that it should work with normal Microstation, although it apparently requires Microstation Geographics with an open project, anyone. It shouldn't and with Microstation's Visual Basic editor it should be possible to remove that part ... of course, for that you have to break the password.

Pending tasks:

  • Try it and tell me
  • Someone should know how to throw the password, because the application is very hot
  • If someone knows about an application, it will be welcome
